Wallabies flanker Dave Dennis has been named captain of the NSW Waratahs for the 2013 Super Rugby season.
New coach Michael Cheika made the announcement at the Waratahs' season launch in Sydney on Wednesday.
"I only decided about 20 minutes ago," Cheika said.
"The first discussion about that was with the players. I want us to be totally transparent."
Dennis was the Waratahs players' player of the year in 2012 and broke into the Wallabies team.
"It's a huge honour for me, something I didn't strive to achieve," Dennis said.
The Waratahs finished 11th last season with a 4-12 record, losing their final eight games.
