Fardy and the Wallabies left Sydney on Friday to start their spring tour, starting with a clash against England at Twickenham on November 2.

Before flying out, ACT Brumbies forward Fardy revealed he missed the recent Test against the All Blacks last weekend to avoid risking damage to his sight after he was poked in the eye against Argentina.

But the 29-year-old has been given the all-clear to return to action and is determined to win back his spot for a dream appearance at Twickenham.

Fardy's last trip to Europe was as a development player with the NSW Waratahs. It was so long ago he can't even remember who they played.

Just three years ago, Fardy was on the Australian rugby scrap heap.

''I have been very lucky in this last 12 months especially with what I have experienced,'' Fardy said.

''I have played in great stadiums around the world … it is what rugby is about. The chance to get around the world and see different environments. I'm very, very happy to get this chance and be a part of this. If I can get on with the job and play my role right, then it's all good.''

Fardy has been a key figure of the Wallabies' overhaul since Ewen McKenzie started his coaching tenure.

The second-rower played in every Rugby Championship Test, only missing the last Bledisloe Cup match because of injury.

Fardy copped an accidental poke in the eye against Argentina three weeks ago, but thought nothing of it.

He was preparing to travel to Dunedin with the Wallabies when medical staff told him if he played he risked being hit by partial sight.

''I had some bleeding in the eye and if I played it could have done further damage which would have done long-term damage,'' Fardy said. ''I was warned not to play. I felt all right, like I could play. But if I got more contact on it I could have been in a lot more trouble.

''My sight is fine now, but I could have ended up with big pools of blood on my eye, which can damage your sight and it can become a drawn-out process with surgery.''

The Wallabies launched a mini resurgence to end the Rugby Championship following a disastrous start to McKenzie's reign.

McKenzie replaced Robbie Deans, but his promise of attacking rugby failed to deliver immediate results.

The Wallabies have won just two of their seven Tests with McKenzie as the team's boss and face matches against England, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Wallabies showed promise in their demolition job against Argentina, but Fardy said it was time to deliver against the top-tier nations.

Australia hasn't completed a successful grand slam tour since 1984.

''This is a huge opportunity to make a name for this team,'' Fardy said.

''Not every player gets the opportunity to do this, you remember forever. It's a chance to play on a grand slam and we can't wait to get over there and rip in.''
