The Canberra Times can reveal Hegarty has been offered a contract by French club Grenoble and the ACT Brumbies hooker is weighing up options for his future beyond this season.

If Hegarty does leave Canberra, he is keen to return after a stint abroad and resume his career with the Brumbies.

He is expected to make a final decision by the end of this week.

The 25-year-old has played every match for the Brumbies this season and has established himself as a capable rake playing behind Wallabies hooker Stephen Moore.

But Hegarty believes the chance to test himself in forwards-dominated European contests would make him a better player.

''I would just be going over for more experience in scrums and lineouts but I would always look at coming home,'' Hegarty said. ''I would get to play a different code of rugby and I would be able to come back more experienced and a different player.

''But I haven't made any decisions yet.''

Brumbies lock Ben Hand has also signed a deal with Grenoble and it is believed former Brumby Henry Vanderglas is a chance of joining the club as well.

Queanbeyan junior Hegarty made his Super Rugby debut last season and has cemented his spot in the game-day squad with Siliva Siliva out injured.

Former Australian under-20 hooker Siliva is due to return from an injured ankle in the Brumbies' mid-week fixture against Wales next month.
