Speight trained with the Wallabies for almost two weeks after being invited into camp by coach Ewen McKenzie, despite International Rugby Board eligibility restrictions delaying his availability to play for Australia until September.

The move was designed to get Speight up to speed with the Wallabies' environment so McKenzie can inject the Fijian flyer into the Test line-up as soon as he is cleared to play for Australia.

Being so close to the team without being allowed to play would have been torture for most.

But Speight is still riding high and it is bad news for the Tuggeranong Vikings as the ACT Brumbies winger prepares to make his Canberra club rugby debut on Saturday.

"I got a taste [of the] environment and it's just made me hungrier to get back there and part of the full squad," Speight said.

"I've got a desire to work hard and get back. I got to see how the team functions at the next level and it was a massive eye opener. I've come back keen to do everything to get back.

"It definitely fuels the fire. It was a massive thrill to be there. Being so close to everything makes me want to be there, everyone dreams of that."

Speight and the Brumbies will restart their Super Rugby campaign next week when they play the NSW Waratahs in Sydney.

They need to win their last two games of the season to guarantee a play-off berth for the second consecutive year.

But for now Speight is going from international rugby back to grassroots to bolster the Gungahlin Eagles' line-up for their clash against three-time defending premiers Tuggeranong.

Speight has been part of the Eagles' set-up for the past three years, but Brumbies duties and injuries have prevented him from playing a first XV match until now.

When Speight broke his jaw earlier this year, Speight shocked Gungahlin by showing up on game day ready to run the water for teammates he had never even played with.

And, as an added bonus, Speight will get to play alongside fellow Fijian and housemate Mesu Dolokoto for the first time.

Speight has taken former Fijian junior representative Dolokoto under his wing this year, opening up his home and helping the softly spoken junior adapt to life in Canberra.

"I'm really excited, I carry the water or just do whatever I can normally so I'm looking forward to it," Speight said. "It's really humbling going to club rugby and makes you realise how lucky you are.

"Breaking my jaw worked out in a good way because I could run water for Gungahlin. The chance to get on the park this week is a great opportunity and to prepare for the Waratahs.

"You've got to be thick-skinned to train at Nicholls on the cold nights ... but it doesn't matter what the field looks like I'll still be trying to do my best for Gungahlin. Mesu has more Eagles caps than me, he can be the experienced one this weekend."

Meanwhile, the Brumbies start their Singapore world club 10s tournament on Saturday night. Robbie Coleman is leading the team in its bid to win a second international trophy in 12 months, after winning the London club sevens tournament last year.
