James O'Connor's stint in European rugby union will include an appearance against an England XV after he was named in the Barbarians squad to play at Twickenham on June 1.

The former Western Force and Melbourne Rebels man is one of three former Wallaby backs in an initial group of 14 players announced for the game against what will be a weakened England outfit.

Toulon pair Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell were also picked.

Hosea Gear, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Rene Ranger, Jimmy Cowan, Ali Williams, John Afoa and Carl Hayman are the seven Europe-based former All Blacks in the squad.

French trio Aurelien Rougerie, Francois Trinh-Duc and Julien Bonnaire are also there, with former England back row Steffon Armitage rounding out the initial selection.

The England XV is likely to be an experimental selection, with the Test side unavailable as they play the first Test of their series against the All Blacks in Auckland on June 7.
