Mogg will end seven months of injury frustration when he is injected into the Brumbies' starting side for their clash with the Otago Highlanders at Canberra Stadium.

It's the start of his bid to earn a new deal with the Brumbies after overcoming two shoulder injuries and being forced to bide his time in the background for the first 10 rounds of the season.

Mogg is locked in negotiations with the Brumbies about extending his stay in Canberra while overseas clubs also circle the big-kicking fullback as a recruiting target.

"It's hard because I haven't played any rugby so I haven't been able to use that as my case in any terms of negotiations," Mogg said.

"We're working through a few things at the moment. But at the end of the day I want to get back out there and play. If I'm playing well then that will help my decision of what I'm going to do and the [Brumbies] will want to keep me if I'm playing well as opposed to sitting on the sideline."

Mogg is part of a back-line rejig, joining Tevita Kuridrani in making a return from injury while Robbie Coleman shifts to inside centre and Henry Speight moves back to the wing.

It's Mogg's first start since the Brumbies' loss to the NSW Waratahs in the Super Rugby semi-final last year. He initially injured his shoulder player for the Canberra Vikings and has also been struck down by an ear infection and another shoulder problem this year.

The 25-year-old wants to rediscover his love of rugby this season after a rollercoaster of form and injuries in the past 18 months.

Mogg made his Wallabies debut against the British and Irish Lions in 2013 and is hoping he can force his way back into Test selection contention by finding his best Super Rugby form.

"Jesse will be thinking a little bit about his form, but it's a team performance we need and we're not expecting guys who haven't played much this year to change the game," said Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham.

"He's certainly had a couple of starts and then injury halting his progress. But he's back and quite confident ... he's disappointed he hasn't had more game time this year. But we should see him for the rest of the year."

The Brumbies' back line has failed to fire in wet conditions in the past two weeks, scoring just one try in each game against the Auckland Blues and the Melbourne Rebels.

Mogg and Kuridrani add valuable experience, but Mogg warned the Brumbies not to expect things to click immediately as they find their feet coming back from injury woes.

"I can't wait to get amongst it and have some fun," Mogg said. "The guys that have been there over the last few weeks have had an opportunity to play, but just because guys like Tevita and the other Wallabies are coming back, we can't sit back.

"We can't rely on any individual. We need to start playing as a team again, that's what's going to win us games."
