The presidents will meet on Monday to discuss after calling an extraordinary general meeting for April 21 to front the board and ask for an explanation of the Brumbies' tumultuous two weeks.

Easts president Greg Dennis said the clubs were making moves for the betterment of the local competition and hopes officials will give them the information they need.

A trust fund was supposed to be set up for community rugby with the proceeds of the $11.375 million sale of the Brumbies Griffith headquarters and subsequent move to the University of Canberra.

It's one of the major reasons the clubs want to meet with the board, as well as seeking clarity around the decision to stand down Brumbies chief executive Michael Jones.

Jones and the board are still waiting for Justice Richard Refshauge to make a ruling on the injunction against the decision.

The Canberra clubs have boardroom power at the Brumbies, with 14 of 23 votes.

"Certainly people are concerned, there's no doubt about that. But the feeling is to see what happens through due process," Dennis said.

"Until we've had a chance to ask questions of the board, there's really only very limited information available. You don't want to rush to decisions that are half the story.

"The sale of the Griffith site was to provide something for the clubs to call on … even if clubs got $10,000 each year, that's a hell of a lot of sausages you don't have to sell.

"We ran at $110,000 last year and that was done off the smell of an oily rag."

The John I Dent Cup will kick-off on Saturday, with defending champions Royals playing against the Queanbeyan Whites and the Tuggeranong Vikings taking on the Gungahlin Eagles.

Brumbies players will again line-up in the Canberra competition, with Micheal Wells (Queanbeyan), Lausii Taliauli and Albert Anae (Royals) and Jordan Jackson-Hope, Tyrel Lomax and Ben Hyne playing for Tuggeranong.

The start of the John I Dent Cup coincided with the club's decision to call the EGM for the coming weeks.

An initial notice was posted that the agenda was to dissolve the board and elect a new board at the meeting at Brumbies headquarters.

But it's understood club presidents want to find answers before making any major decisions.

"The two worries I have is that each year financially it's a struggle and we're all fighting for resources of young people to play the game," Dennis said.

The local competition's lower grades have been revamped this year to have have a premier division of first grade, second grade and colts, while third and fourth grade teams join an expanded Monaro competition.

Easts will field a colts team this year after failing to do so last season. The club has struggled financially in recent years and had their storage shed broken into in the off-season.

But Dennis is confident they will find their feet to rebuild, and the club will wear a memorial jersey to recognise former players who have died, including Ian Wells and Peter Morton.
