McCabe is also confident his latest injury setback won't ruin the strides he made after breaking his neck twice, adamant he can continue his career-best form as the Brumbies aim for a championship.

The injury-hit Brumbies are expected to get a major boost next week with McCabe, Matt Toomua, Josh Mann-Rea, Andrew Smith and Joseph Tomane all on track to play against the Western Force in Canberra.

But they are all subject to fitness tests and lock Sam Carter is racing the clock to be fit to take his place in the second row for the last game of the regular season.

The Brumbies need to beat the Force to secure a play-off spot, regardless of results, while they enjoy a much-needed bye this weekend.

"We'll have a tough session [on Friday afternoon] and the guys know that to give ourselves any chance we have to beat the Force," McCabe said.

"That's what the season is about - playing in the finals. We've worked for a long time to give ourselves a chance ... to take that with any sort of complacency would be really disappointing.

"We've been in the top four for the bulk of the year, we see ourselves as a team capable of playing in the finals and we're not focused on anything else right now."

McCabe suffered nerve damage in his shoulder in the last tackle of the Wallabies' second Test against France last month.

It's the third time in four Tests that McCabe has been injured, following broken necks in November 2012 and June last year. But the hard-nosed Brumbies back laughed off suggestions of a cursed gold jersey and wants to use the Brumbies' end of season run to show he is still in peak form.

"I did some damage to the nerve and lost some feeling and strength in my left arm," McCabe said. "The recovery is a bit slower than I would like it, but everything is on track for the Force.

"It's just one of those things, every time you play for Australia you feel incredibly fortunate. To get back there [after breaking my neck twice] was something I enjoyed and was proud of."

Brumbies coaches Stephen Larkham and Laurie Fisher will face a back line selection headache when the team returns to training on Monday.

McCabe usurped Jesse Mogg as the Brumbies' starting fullback before the three-week bye for the Wallabies to play France.

But McCabe's shoulder injury allowed Mogg to regain form against the NSW Waratahs last week in a solid display.

Tomane, McCabe, Mogg, Smith, Henry Speight, Clyde Rathbone and Robbie Coleman will all be pushing for three available spots on the wing or at fullback.

"It's going to be a tough spot to get [in the Brumbies' line-up], you've got to hope for the best and if you get a chance you've got to make the most of it," McCabe said.
