The Brumbies have called in the unknown duo to ease injury woes after starting the season with a backline full of Wallabies stars.

Ah Wong and Taliauli have promised to take full advantage of their opportunity to start against the Melbourne Rebels knowing their time in the starting XV may be brief.

But after breaking free of injury curses and paperwork bungles, the backline duo want to show they can match it against the best.

"When I was growing up I always wanted to play Super Rugby. This has been my goal since I was a kid, it's been a while but to get this opportunity is amazing," Taliauli said.

"There certainly is pressure, but the Wallabies guys are looking after us well.

"It does put a bit of expectation on us to step up there. But we're not thinking about it. We've got a chance to step up and show the coach what we can do."

Taliauli broke his leg with an NRL debut with the Gold Coast Titans in sight.

He switched to the Australian sevens rugby program only to have a citizenship delay prevent him from playing in Olympic qualifiers last year.

It opened the door for him to join the Brumbies and the 21-year-old New Zealand-born speedster says his long, bruising and frustrating journey will make running on to Canberra Stadium even sweeter.

Dual international and former Australian coach Michael O'Connor recruited Taliauli to sevens and has no doubt his fearless approach will make him an instant hit.

"I saw him in his school days as well, he's just got a knack of scoring tries," O'Connor said.

"But he just seems to have attracted a lot of injury. He's certainly got size (102 kilograms and 193 centimetres) but we didn't see the best of him in the sevens program.

"I felt sorry for him ... but that's why I'm so thrilled for him now. He's fearless in his game, maybe that's why he's been injured. But he's certainly got what it takes."

Ah Wong was likened to code-hopping star Folau when he made the transition from flanker to outside back in Queensland.

He played rugby in Japan before speaking with Brumbies 2014 player of the year Jarrad Butler about a potential move to Canberra.

He signed a deal to be Tevita Kuridrani's understudy, but the 24-year-old broke his arm in his first Brumbies pre-season trial match.

"I was a bit down when I got injured, but I just wanted to work hard to get back," Ah Wong said.

"I wanted to give Super Rugby a good crack. I knew it would be tough, but this is much chance to learn.

"Someone wrote something about Folau once ... I don't see it like that. We're different players and I'm just excited for my chance to start."
