AUCKLAND: The 20-year-old Perenara, who in his first year in the competition is already being tipped as a future All Black, was scheduled to have surgery in Brisbane on Saturday.
He faces four to six months on the sidelines.
Perenara damaged his left ankle while scoring the last of the Hurricanes' six tries late in the 36-7 win on the Sunshine Coast on Friday night.
His injury is also a blow to the Wellington-based franchise's playoff hopes.
The Hurricanes, who occupy one of the wildcard spots at sixth on the ladder, play the two teams above them in the New Zealand conference in their last two round-robin matches - the Crusaders and competition leaders the Chiefs.
