The Canberra Times can reveal the Brumbies are investigating ways to host their first home final in almost a decade on a Saturday night after securing their place in the play-offs.
The Super Rugby finals begin on the weekend of July 19-20.
It's understood the Brumbies' preference would be to play on July 20 - a Saturday night - given they have to fly back to the capital after their last regular-season game in Perth the week before.
But the Raiders are locked into the NRL draw and a match against the Eels that night.
Raiders chief executive Don Furner confirmed to The Canberra Times the Green Machine would be happy to move their match to a Sunday afternoon.
But the Raiders' willingness to help the Brumbies would have to be approved by the NRL, television broadcasters Fox Sports and any other rugby league clubs affected. ''We would be happy to help out, but it's up to the broadcasters and the NRL,'' Furner said.
''I'd rather play on a Sunday afternoon, to be honest, so it wouldn't worry us if we had to move the game to then. A clash doesn't work well for us either.''
The Raiders regularly request afternoon matches in winter to help attract bigger crowds and avoid freezing night-time games.
More than 21,000 fans watched as the Brumbies beat the British and Irish Lions in an historic match earlier this week and more than 20,000 fans are likely to be at the first finals match in Canberra since 2004.
International travel schedules mean a Sunday afternoon fixture for the Brumbies is not an option.
If the Brumbies manage to steal a top-two finish, their home final will be played on the weekend of July 26-27.
There is also another potential clash if the Brumbies host the grand final on August 3, with the
Raiders to play the Storm in the capital on the same weekend.
But it is likely the Brumbies will finish third on the ladder and take on the sixth-placed team in the opening week of play-off action.
One option is for the NRL to swap the Raiders-Eels match with a Penrith-Newcastle game, which is scheduled for Sunday.
However, strict rules surrounding the amount of days between games for each club and the impending approval would make that a logistical nightmare.
The minimum break between games for NRL teams is five days.
The NRL is aware of the upcoming clash but no formal approach has been made about a switch.
Super Rugby's chief executive Greg Peters said: ''We are aware of the situation in Canberra and will factor this into our scheduling discussions with the relevant stakeholders in the event the Brumbies finish third.''
Travel constraints have to be taken into account for the scheduling of Super Rugby finals, with teams from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia trying to win the title.
Corporate partnerships, major sponsors and ground signage make it logistically impossible for the Brumbies and Raiders to play at Canberra Stadium on the same day.
Canberra Stadium general manager Neale Guthrie has sent a note to both clubs telling them about the schedule clash.
Fox Sports will televise both games. A Fox Sports spokesman said: ''There would be a few hoops for everyone to jump through. It would come down to whether the Raiders and the NRL would be willing to move it as well before any consideration would be made.''
