Coleman turned down interest from the Canberra Raiders, rival NRL teams and the Australian Sevens Olympic program to commit to a two-year contract extension with the Brumbies.

A Queanbeyan junior, Coleman grew up idolising Raiders halfback and now coach Ricky Stuart, and Wallabies playmaker - now Brumbies coach - Stephen Larkham.

"They were both amazing players and rugby league is something that I really love playing, but the last time I played was when I was 17 for the Queanbeyan Blues," Coleman said. "I have a few ties with the Raiders, but it never really got past just interest.

"I knew in my mind I wanted to stay in rugby with the Brumbies. It was just about trying to get the right deal.

"I signed with the Brumbies in my first year out of school, to re-sign is huge for me. I love playing under Bernie, it made no sense to me to want to move."

ARU officials are still keen to recruit Super Rugby stars to boost the Olympic campaign next year, but want prospective players to put their Super Rugby careers on hold next year. Coleman has chosen Super Rugby with the Brumbies.

"The Olympics didn't really come into it, because I knew it was a long process. Sevens is so hard on your body, touring the world for a living isn't a bad gig either," Coleman said.

"I definitely looked at Sevens, I've always loved it and still do love the game.

"I'm just really excited about improving at the Brumbies, I'm comfortable here. I definitely don't regret choosing the Brumbies."

Coleman's immediate focus is keeping the Brumbies' Super Rugby finals ambitions alive

He has played every game this year and appears set to be the club's long-term fullback with Jesse Mogg signing a deal last week with French club Montpellier.

The Brumbies play the Johannesburg Lions at Ellis Park this weekend and need to win to stay in a tight race for Australia's guaranteed finals spot.
