But the Wallabies are bracing for an ambush in Paris, vowing to muscle up in the scrum as France set their sights on revenge on Sunday morning, Sydney time.

Fainga'a thought his chances of playing on the spring tour were remote when he was struggling to make the Reds' starting team this year. Injuries to Stephen Moore, Tatafu Polota-Nau and Nathan Charles have opened the door for a second chance.

The unexpected opportunity coupled with the birth of daughter Sienna in September has given Fainga'a a fresh focus on his Test spot.

"I'm enjoying it and loving playing ... I've been home for 10 days with my daughter and been away for almost three months [since Sienna was born]," Fainga'a said. "My fiancee is doing it pretty tough at home, but that makes the green-and-gold jersey even more special being away. It gives balance [to my life]. Rugby is No.1 but we need balance with family life."

Fainga'a missed the Wallabies' Test against South Africa in Perth to be with fiancee Alicia for the birth of their first child. But soon after, Fainga'a was on a plane to South Africa and Argentina and is halfway through a five-week stint in Europe.

Faingaa and fellow rake James Hanson will be thrown into an intense scrum battle against France a week after the forward pack conceded a penalty try against Wales. The perception that the set piece is the weakest aspect of the Wallabies' game is driving Australia's big men to prove their critics wrong.

It is likely the Wallabies will take only three hookers to the World Cup next year. Moore, Polota-Nau and Charles were at the top of the pecking order before the injury crisis hit. Faingaa, Hanson and Josh Mann-Rea have a chance to bolt into contention and the Wallabies forwards want to show they aren't vulnerable.

"It's all about consistency ... we know that the French team primarily base their game around the scrum," Fainga'a said. "We've got a lot of work to do in making sure we don't have nine good games and one bad one."

With Ewen McKenzie as coach, the Wallabies completed a clean sweep of the series against France in June, thumping the visitors 50-23, 6-0 and 39-13.

"We have to take triple revenge," France coach Philippe Saint-Andre said. "What struck me was the third Test where we collapsed too quickly. That's unacceptable when you represent a country, a history, an identity."

The Wallabies are also intent on making better decisions to close out games. They survived late pressure from Wales after kicking away possession. They also squandered a chance to beat New Zealand in similar fashion last month.

Michael Cheika left no questions in his players' minds about what they should do if the game is tight, telling them to hold on to the ball and kill the game.

"We made some errors, we'll learn from that. Cheik made it clear that it's not what we'll be doing from now on and everyone will be toeing the line," Nick Phipps said. "It's good that it's happening now instead of the World Cup next year, we can use this time to fine-tune things."
