On Thursday, Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie will name his squad for the three-Test series against France in June.

Moore, a 91-Test rake, is one of the contenders for the vacant captain's role and former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones has publicly endorsed his credentials to replace Ben Mowen.

Michael Hooper, James Horwill and Will Genia are also potential leaders and Moore believes Australia has ample senior players to cover Mowen's departure.

However, Moore is focused on the Brumbies' Super Rugby campaign and is determined to make sure nothing distracts the team before its clash against the Pretoria Bulls.

The Brumbies have a slender lead in the Australian conference after losing to the lowly ranked Free State Cheetahs last weekend.

It sets up a massive battle against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday morning, Australian time, and Moore expects the Brumbies to get desperate.

"The Bulls have to win and so do we now, we need to see that desperation come out this week," Moore said of the Brumbies.

"The ladder is the tightest I've ever seen it but all we can do is keep winning and, if you don't do that, you don't deserve to be in the finals. That's simple.

"We know it's going to be tough, but we have to be better and translate it on to the field."

Moore is one of the most experienced players in Australian rugby and has played in two World Cup campaigns.

Jones, a former Test and Brumbies mentor, described Moore as a standout player and a certain selection.

Mowen, who is leaving Australia to play in France, urged the Wallabies to pick a captain and stick with the candidate until at least the end of the World Cup next year.

Hooper is a star on the rise, Horwill lost the Test captaincy last year and Genia was overlooked for the vice-captain duties when McKenzie took the reins.

"[Wallabies selections] can be a distraction, but our job is to make sure it's not," Moore said.

"It's just something you have to deal with . . . we have to make sure our focus is on the task at hand and that's the Bulls.

"There are a lot of guys who have played a lot of Test rugby and any number of guys who could step up as leaders – that's something for the coaches to go through."

Moore is enjoying another outstanding Super Rugby campaign. Moore has scored two tries in the past three games as the Brumbies aim for a top-two finish on the ladder.

The 31-year-old has also been pivotal in the Brumbies boasting the best lineout in the competition this year, but they face one of their biggest challenges when they take on set-piece expert Victor Matfield this week.

Former South African captain and Super Rugby championship-winning skipper Matfield came out of retirement this year to return to the Bulls and aim for a Springbok recall.

It means he will clash with Mowen, who is regarded as his Australian opposite.

Both are superb exponents at the lineout and lead the competition for the most lineout wins and steals this season.

The Brumbies are also aiming to get consistency in their scrum after they were pinned for several penalties in the second half against the Cheetahs.

"I haven't seen any stats around the scrum, but I think in general every team's scrum has been inconsistent this year and that's a lot to do with the new engagement rules," Moore said.

"There's a lot more pressure and disruption on your put in and that's just the way the scrums have evolved. We're always trying to get better, you're never happy and the Bulls will be a step up."
