And the powerful outside back insists he's content biding his time on the bench while he gets comfortable with his return to rugby union.

Former Gold Coast Titan Tomane could easily be getting ready to take on the Canberra Raiders in the round-two NRL clash at Skilled Park on Saturday.

Instead he will be a part of Jake White's ACT Brumbies squad which will attempt to topple the unpredictable Cheetahs in the capital.

His transition back to rugby after five seasons in the NRL hasn't been easy and Tomane admits he's still learning the game.

But he hopes having his three-year-old daughter Starsha will help inspire him to have an instant impact from the bench against the Cheetahs.

''It's pretty crazy and I'm getting used to Canberra life living away from home and my daughter,'' Tomane said.

''I could have been on the Gold Coast playing the Raiders but I get to be here playing against an international franchise.

''That's good about Super Rugby because you get to play against those guys and test yourself.

''I'm not too sure what the plans are for me, I'm not fussed on how much time I play, I'm just focused on doing my job and doing my best to help the team when I get out there.''

White will name his team today for the round-three clash with the Cheetahs.

Versatile Wallabies back Pat McCabe will make his comeback from a shoulder reconstruction and play on the wing.

Rookie Jesse Mogg will be given the task of moving to fullback after his impressive debut in round one.

The only other change to the starting XV is expected to be Ben Hand at lock, with Leon Power to miss the match with a slight hamstring strain.

Tomane and Brumbies skipper Ben Mowen tamed the cheetahs at the Canberra Zoo and Aquarium yesterday.

But they expect to face a fired-up Cheetahs side still licking its wounds from a 51-19 thrashing at the hands of the Pretoria Bulls last weekend.

Tomane's experience against South African teams is limited to a schoolboy trip with Nudgee College and the 22-year-old expects a brutal contest on Saturday afternoon.

''South African teams are really physical and hopefully we're up to the task,'' Tomane said.

''I enjoy watching South African teams play because of the physicality and intensity they play at.

''The Cheetahs play an expansive style, it's exciting and that suits them but we have to play our type of rugby and control the tempo of the game so we don't get caught in their style.''

The Cheetahs shocked a star-studded Brumbies side in Bloemfontein last season. The Brumbies got caught in an all-out attacking game and the Cheetahs romped to a 47-36 triumph.

Mowen was playing for the NSW Waratahs last season when the Cheetahs caused a major boilover at the Sydney Football Stadium and he warned the Brumbies to expect the wounded Free State side to bounce back.

''Coming off a loss like that [against the Bulls], the team will galvanise,'' Mowen said.

''If you take the Cheetahs lightly, they usually punish you.''
