The proud cattle farmer from country Queensland still remembers when Wallabies captain John Eales walked into his school of 150 students and unknowingly started Simmons' rugby journey.

And in the wake of the Beale drama and the Wallabies having three coaches in less than two years, Simmons believes Australia can regain respect from the way they play.

Simmons has visited his old primary school in Theodore, a town of fewer than 500, to show kids there's a path to the top.

Asked if he spotted any future Wallabies, Simmons said: "They're all over the shop, they've just got to get out of there somehow and show their skills.

"Hopefully [Simmons' visit in 2011] had a similar effect [to Eales']. The reputation you carry yourself in is pretty big.

"Cheika wants us to be honest and call each other out, tell each other when we've done well or say we need to improve.

"We've just got to know each other's role, we've got to show the public that this is how the team works. It's about consistent footy so the crowd knows what is happening."

Simmons is set to renew his lock partnership with former captain James Horwill when the Wallabies play Wales in Cardiff on Sunday morning.

He has played in all but one of Australia's nine-game winning streak against Wales and wants to continue the pain for the Wallabies' World Cup rivals.

It's a welcome distraction from the news at home, with Beale's future an ongoing talking point and the players growing increasingly frustrated that the story of his lewd text message to Di Patston continues to follow them.

The ARU said its recommendation to a code of conduct hearing was that Beale be sacked.

When asked his thoughts on the ARU's stance against Beale, Simmons said: "We've moved on, it's all behind us and dealt with. Every time we hear about it, it's you guys asking about it.

"Apart from that we move forward, train and look forward to the next game."

Former problem child Quade Cooper said last week he turned his career around and ended his off-field woes by realising he needed to be a role model for his younger brothers.

Simmons knows better than most how good rugby role models can influence the future for aspiring kids.

The first game of rugby he watched was when Eales kicked a last-minute penalty to win the Bledisloe Cup and he then met one of his idols.

The 25-year-old has now established himself as Australia's No. 1 lock in the past 12 months and is all but certain to start against Wales on the weekend.

Horwill, Sam Carter and Will Skelton are competing for the second lock position.

"Kev's [Horwill] a very strong kind of guy … he's just focused on his own footy and it's starting to come through now which is really good," Simmons said.

Simmons said the Wallabies wanted to develop a world-class set piece, despite missing first-choice hookers Stephen Moore and Tatafu Polota-Nau.

"For a few years the Australian scrum gets spoken about [in Europe] and it's done quite well.

"We're trying to push forward again and make it a world scrum. It's a source of pride, we want to make other teams worried about our scrum."
