Lustica, who previously played for Gold Coast United, will be on loan from Croatian club Hajduk Split, where he has been playing since 2011 and is contracted with the club until June 2015.
Lustica was overseas when contacted by Fairfax and said he couldn't comment on the matter “for a few days”, indicating the deal may still be in the process of being finalised.
The return would see the 21-year-old midfielder again join forces with Roar coach Mike Mulvey, who coached Lustica when he captained the Gold Coast side in the National Youth League, winning the championship twice and the league's Player of the Season in 2011.
That added to his one Youth League championship with Sydney FC in 2009.
Lustica has played 21 games with the Australian under-20 side, scoring 3 goals.
Roar's next game is against Perth on Saturday night.
