Comets skipper John Rogers takes the reins of the Blue team, while young captain-in-waiting Blake Macdonald will lead the Gold team at Manuka Oval.
The Comets remain winless after three matches this season and assistant coach Luke Butterworth says the contest looms as a massive opportunity with "so many spots up for grabs".
A veteran of 70 first class matches, Butterworth believes the loss of a number of Big Bash League players opens the door for the next crop of stars to emerge.
"There's only a few players that have really cemented their spot in the team," Butterworth told Cricket ACT.
"I'd like to see young players like Blake Macdonald, Matthew Gilkes, Ben Taylor and Joe Slater really put their hand up."
Aiden Blizzard (Sydney Thunder), Jono Dean (Adelaide Strikers), and Brad Haddin (Sydney Sixers) are all immersed in the bright lights of the BBL.
Blizzard and Dean will likely be available for the ACT's next Futures League match against Victoria in February, but Haddin's commitments are set to be in a mentoring role.
Weston Creek Molonglo batsmen Rogers and Mark Bennett are shaping up for a shootout, both averaging over 100 with the bat across all formats this season.
Entry is free for the fixture, with the match beginning at 10am at Manuka Oval on Sunday.
