The ACT women had a tough start to their National Women's Baseball Championships campaign with a mercy-rule, 13-3 loss to Western Australia at Narrabundah Ballpark on Sunday.
They're hoping to improve on last year's fourth place, where they lost the bronze-medal game to Queensland, but got off to a slow start.
WA needed just five innings to get the win, thanks largely to an 11-run frame in the bottom of the second inning with errors proving costly.
ACT outfielder Kristol Pyke had a good outing with the bat, with two runs batted in.
The ACT weren't the only team to suffer a big loss in their opening game, with NSW flogging Victoria 17-0.
WA also beat Queensland 12-9. The nationals continue until Sunday's finals.
