New Zealand duo Lea Tahuhu and Sara McGlashan, along with 21-year-old Katie Mack, were the stars for the Meteors in the seven-wicket win at the Gabba. Tahuhu was lethal in her opening over, having opener Carly Ryan and New Zealand No.3 Amy Satterthwaite caught behind for ducks.

Tahuhu ended with 3-21 from 10 overs as Tasmania was bowled out for 182.

After losing opening partner Claire Koski for 10, Mack (67) and Kris Britt (39) set up the chase before McGlashan (62 off 43 balls) took apart the Tasmanian attack to reach the total inside 40 overs.

Meteors coach Andrew Dawson said he was thrilled to see his two imports make an impact.

"It was a pleasing result all round, first with Katie Mack at the top and then Sara McGlashan coming in and showing her class when it was needed," Dawson said. "Katie Mack really showed that she's an emerging player on the Australian domestic scene, and McGlashan is absolute world class.

"As a striker of the cricket ball I think she has to be up there in international cricket."

She showed her teammates what she was capable of during a brutal spell in the nets earlier this month, and Dawson said Tahuhu's opening spell against the Roar was just as good.

"It was fantastic, to get Carly Ryan and then Amy Satterthwaite was very pleasing.

"Amy really whacked us around last year in Hobart so it was nice to see the back of her. Lea just bowls good away swing, good pace and bounce and some really good lines."

The Meteors take on Queensland at Alan Border Field on Saturday before playing Victoria on Monday.
