Taylor destroyed the Meteors' bowling attack with a match-winning knock of 81 from just 51 balls to lead the South Australia Scorpions to an eight-wicket win on Sunday in Adelaide.
The Scorpions had little drama in chasing down the Meteors' total of 7-125 in the women's Twenty20 game, passing the victory target with more than three overs to spare.
The Meteors lost all three games in their series with the Scorpions, both teams playing with heavy hearts in the wake of the tragic death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes.
While Dawson admitted his side was pretty flat given the extraodrinary circumstances, he wanted his players to realise what is needed to take the next step.
After seeing Australian Southern Stars' duo Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning get among the runs for NSW and Victoria respectively, England star Taylor was in just as impressive form for SA.
"They've seen Alyssa Healy when she got high 90s, they saw Meg Lanning perform against us, now it's Sarah Taylor," Dawson said.
"If some of our players aren't picking this up, then wow, I'm not too sure what won't make it click in.
"There's only so many times you can put your hand in the boiling water I reckon before you go ouch."
The Meteors couldn't get going in their batting innings.
After slumping to 7-88, youngster Jenny Taffs top-scored with 29 not out and Kira Churchland scored a quick-fire 21 from 12 balls to give the Meteors something to defend.
However, it was never going to be enough against a rampaging Taylor, with Lynsey Askew the most economical of the Meteors' bowlers, taking 1-14 from her three overs.
The Meteors will have a few weeks off before they host Queensland from December 21-23 at Manuka Oval.
