Harriott top-scored with 132 and Dawson made a patient 118 from 337 balls as the Comets posted 341 in their second innings to ensure NSW had to bat again.

But having led by a mammoth 277 runs after the first innings, the Blues hardly broke a sweat to record a nine-wicket win, finishing at 1-64 in their second dig at Rosedale Oval on Thursday.

"All credit to Ben Rohrer and Daniel Hughes who batted really well, but truth be told we weren't up to the mark with our bowling effort and batting in the first innings," Dawson said.

"It was great to form a partnership with Andrew Harriott, who scored his first, second XI hundred, which is great for him.

"He batted really well and he's improved in every game, so that's a positive we can take away."

Dawson was the standout performer for the Comets in his first season as captain, the former NSW and Tasmania batsman scoring 593 runs at an average of 84.

The 32-year-old still harbours ambitions of returning to the Blues side in the Sheffield Shield, but knows there's plenty of competition for spots.

"I'm not really sure, those things are out of my control," Dawson said.

"I can just try and score as many runs as I can at second XI and club level.

"It's been an honour to come back and captain the side where it all started for me and to see some young cricketers like Matt Condon and Josh Bennett coming through the ranks.

"Hopefully I can continue to do it for seasons to come."
