Competing in the under-14 category, Poulos won all four of her pool matches to advance to the semi-final where she was narrowly beaten by Uzbekistan's Oleysa Kim.

The tournament was just her second overseas tournament but already the 13-year-old is determined to play more after dominating in Australia.

"I was really excited to play different players from around the world because I tend to play the same people over and over again in Australia, so it was a really nice experience and a new challenge," Poulos said.

"I got through it too, which is nice and I know how the future matches might be like."

Poulos' semi-final with Kim went to a modified tie-break after the two won a set each with Kim coming out on top 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.

The level-headed Poulos said she was pleased with the result.

"It was disappointing after the match but I got over it pretty quickly," she said. "I knew it was still a pretty good result and I learnt so much during the week."

Poulos now has a taste for playing overseas and is preparing to qualify for the Junior Fed Cup to be played in India next year.

"I haven't been there yet and I'm getting used to travelling," she said. "That's the nice thing about tennis, getting to travel and see new places.

"But I need to keep playing ITFs [International Tennis Federation] and keep building my ranking to get the opportunities to go to the bigger tournaments."

Meanwhile, Sydney-based junior Violet Apisah won the 16-and-under category at the same tournament.

Apisah played under a Papua New Guinea passport with her Australian citizenship application being processed, and the confident youngster has lofty career goals.

"I want to be No.1 in the world, but I just have to keep playing and training hard," she said.
