The long-standing No.11 and fellow retired legend Michael Hussey tried their hand at blind cricket on Tuesday as part of Blind Cricket ACT receiving a grant from the CommBank Cricket Club Sponsorship program.

Community cricket clubs across the country can apply for a sponsorship, which consists of a $2000 grant each year for two years as well as cricket gear and other merchandise for game days.

McGrath and Hussey donned goggles that gave the impression of various levels of sight impairment, from mild impairment to complete blindness.

In blind cricket, a ball with a bell in it is rolled across the ground to allow the batter to locate where it is.

"I think I batted as well as I did at Test level – so pretty ordinary," McGrath said.

"You've got to admire what they do.

"They're getting out there, having a go and not letting anything stop them."

Hussey paid tribute to the skill of the blind players and

"They're so passionate about the game," Hussey said.

"They're really good players. They obviously battle for funding and participation and one of the guys is off to the World Cup tomorrow.

"To be able to help the game grow, we want as many people falling in love with the game and playing cricket as much as possible."

ACT blind cricket captain Michael Hamilton will travel with the Australian team to the World Cup in South Africa.

"This is huge for Blind Cricket ACT's future," Hamilton said.

"We can support guys a lot more and send them to national competitions and potentially bring in new players from regional Australia and ACT."
