The Tuggeranong Vikings scored four tries in 10 minutes to salvage a remarkable 47-47 draw against Wests in round two of the John I Dent Cup at Jamison Oval on Saturday.

Across the border Uni-Norths piled on 33 second half points to beat the Queanbeyan Whites 40-23. Corey Toole ran in five tries to help the Gungahlin Eagles to a 74-5 win over Easts.

You're reading that correctly - 236 points in three games. But few will be remembered quite like Tuggeranong's comeback against Wests.

The Vikings looked dead and buried as they trailed 47-19 heading into the final stages of the contest. Then Ryan Lonergan went over. Moments later it was Dean Wilson.

When Jayme Field scored two minutes later, an eery silence fell over Jamison Oval. They couldn't, could they?

Less than three minutes later, Lonergan converted a Rhys Griffiths try to level the scores and set up a last-ditch shot at the most unlikely of victories. They're going to do it.

As Tuggeranong surged inside Wests territory a Griffiths knock-on after the clock hit zero ultimately brought an end to their heroic comeback, and the hosts could breathe a sigh of relief - but still they were left hollow.

It truly was a tale of two halves - much like it was in Uni-Norths' 40-23 victory over Queanbeyan at Campese Oval.

The Owls struggled to contain the electrifying footwork of Will Goddard as the hosts raced out to a 15-0 lead inside 20 minutes. But then a dominant scrum laid the platform for the visitors' first points on the stroke of half-time to give Uni-Norths a pulse.

The half-time message from Uni-Norths coach Sam Rolfe was simple: "energy".

"We just started really slowly, we were a bit lacklustre. Energy was the main word, just be the next person to make a difference," Rolfe said.

"[It had to be] a collective effort. There’s a really good culture in this club at the moment, everyone just picks each other up. Obviously everyone makes mistakes, it’s just about how we bounce back from those mistakes."

Willoughby Axelsen began chriping at flyhalf. Lachlan Osborne found another gear in the back-row. Max Bode brought the scrum to life.

Uni-Norths had broken the game open in the blink of an eye, and the Whites struggled to force their way back into the contest.

"A couple of debutants were really good, Lachlan Osborne had a really good game. A couple of other blokes were really physical, especially in the forward pack. Obviously the scrum was outstanding. All in all, a real team performance," Rolfe said.

"Looking at the squad from when I started pre-season to now, there is just a good amount of depth going through there which is really good.

"Looking at those debutants, it’s really good that they’re enjoying it, being a part of the culture and seeing what the older guys are bringing to the table.

"It was a really, really good second-half performance. You’ve got to give Queanbeyan credit where it’s due, they were really outstanding and we were slow to get out of the blocks."
