The Blue Devils withstood a late fightback from the visitors to prevail 2-1 at a chilly McKellar Park on Wednesday night.

Belconnen United will face the winner of the other semi-final between Cooma Tigers FC and Gungahlin United for the right to be Canberra's representative in the round of 32.

The game burst to life three minutes before half-time when Blue Devils captain Taylor Beaton unleashed a thunderous strike into the top corner of the net.

That's the way it stayed until Blue Devils striker Goran Mukevski was brought down in the box by Tuggeranong keeper Rohan Shepherd in the 56th minute.

Mukevski made no mistake with the penalty, placing it in the bottom left corner for a 2-0 lead.

Zac Munster scored with nine minutes on the clock to put Tuggeranong right back in the contest.

Chances were few and far between in the first half as both sides shook off the rust of playing their second game against each other in the space of three days.

The Blue Devils took the honours on that occasion with a 3-2 victory in the National Premier League at Kambah on Sunday.

It again promised to be another close encounter with Tuggeranong keen on continuing its impressive performances in the cup having hosted A-League giants Melbourne Victory in the round of 16 last year.

Tigers FC and Gungahlin United will square off in the second semi-final at the Hawker Football Centre next Tuesday night.
