Buchanan warmed up in emphatic style, easily taking out the 14+ Pro Ladies event at the ACT BMX Championships at the Tuggeranong BMX Club on Saturday.
The 2012 London Olympian won all three of the motos before taking out the final in 42.142 seconds, with Buchanan's Next Gen squad member Mikalya Rose finishing fourth.
Buchanan will head to the Gold Coast for training with the national squad to prepare for the opening round of the BMX Supercross World Cup series in Manchester in April.
She is preparing to defend her World Cup title, but is also keen to make amends for last year's world championships.
Having won the world title in 2013, Buchanan finished second in last year's time trial before crashing out in the final.
There is also the motivation of beginning the qualification process for next year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"This year I want to have that textbook clean sweep and I'm always shooting to win back the world title," Buchanan said.
"I got second in the time trial and crashed out in the racing and didn't get to defend my world title.
"I aim to be consistent over the entire season again and to earn points to help qualify the country for Rio."
Buchanan also released her new balance bike, designed to get youngsters as young as two on to bikes.
The balance bike has a seat, but no cranks which allows children to bypass training wheels.
"This is where the real grassroots of all cycling and motor sports really begins," Buchanan said.
"It gets children active earlier which has health benefits, but also it gets them learning to balance on a bike."
The ACT BMX Championships continue on Sunday from 10am.
