The game was evenly poised until a three-run sixth innings broke open the game for the Cavalry who now lead the series 2-1 with the final game to be played in Wollongong on Sunday.

Crowd favourite Boss Maonaroa was awarded man-of-the-match, scoring one run with three hits and an RBI.

Canberra's coach Michael Collins said pitcher Josh Degraaf was "outstanding" from his six innings and set the tone for the victory, which they were able to capitalise on through their offence.

"The big standout was the base running," Collins said. "We hussled and took a coupe of free bases which turned out to be runs for us which was the difference in the game."

He said it was the ideal response from a disappointing home loss on Friday.

"Thursday we played a very good ball game also, yesterday [Friday] kind of got away from us early and we never really recovered out of that game pretty much from the early innings," Collins said.

"But this was a great way to respond tonight, the offence did a very nice job batting and obviously the pitching was outstanding."

Collins said a win on Sunday would have the Cavalry well placed early in the ABL season.

"That would be a great momentum boost for us, that would get us back to 500 on the season and be really nice way to start the first two weeks.
