The Brave collected four points out of a possible six from their double-header with a vital 5-4 win against the Melbourne Mustangs at the Melbourne Icehouse on Sunday.

It came less than 24 hours after the Brave went down in 3-2 in a shoot-out in extra-time.

The Brave remain sixth on the table and face another crucial trip away from Canberra when they take on the Adelaide Adrenaline next weekend.

Brave captain Mark Rummukainen said the side hadn't given up hope of replicating last season's surge to the play-offs.

"We need to get a bit of a winning streak going and next week in Adelaide is massive," Rummukainen said. "They're ahead of us in the standings so each game is worth double. All things going to plan we'll be in the finals, but no one's going to make it easy for us."

The Brave debuted a new goal-keeper, with 19-year-old Aleksi Toivinen standing in for injured American shot-stopper Josh Unice.

Toivinen was born in Canberra, but raised in Finland. "Aleksi really impressed the boys and everyone has full confidence in him," Rummukainen said.

"We battled back last night and showed we've got a lot of fight in us. The boys knuckled down tonight, led for the entire game and grinded out a win."

Unice suffered a hard fall in last Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Newcastle North Stars in Canberra.
