Canberra FC will host its second A-League team in as many months when the competition's glamour club, Sydney FC, sets foot in Deakin Stadium next month.

The pre-season fixture is booked for Wednesday, September 10, just three days before the Capital Football National Premier League grand final on September 13.

Canberra FC showed it can be more than handy opposition for the professional sides when it went down 1-0 to the Western Sydney Wanderers last month.

Sydney FC underwent a massive overhaul in the off-season after a disappointing fifth-placed finish in the A-League last season.

Graham Arnold has taken over the coaching reins and has added several new pieces to the squad. These include former Socceroos striker Alex Brosque, New Zealand marksman Shane Smeltz and former Central Coast Mariners forward Bernie Ibini, while attacking midfielder Nicky Carle (13 Socceroos caps) and veteran defender Sasa Ognenovski (22 caps) have returned to the Sky Blues.

There may also be an appearance by talented Canberra junior George Timotheou, who came off the bench for Sydney FC in its recent friendly against English Premier League side West Ham United in Dunedin. The central defender is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport and started the year with Belconnen United in the NPL.
