After spending the past six months recovering from a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder, Edwards is aiming to get back on track when he takes on New Zealand heavyweight Tafa Misipati at the Hellenic Club on Saturday night.

Fellow Canberran Josh Tonna will be on the same card, fighting for an International Sport Kickboxing Association world title when he takes on another Kiwi, Dave Aung.

Edwards – who knocked out John Hopoate in 2012 – is eyeing a permanent return to boxing to make the most of the increased money in the sport.

"Every time I sort of get close to the top, the company I'm fighting for has financial troubles and there's no more big pay days in kickboxing any more," Edwards said.

"In boxing, there's a lot of money right at the top. You just need that one opportunity.

"That's what I'm aiming for, but that could change with one phone call."

Edwards has been signed with the US-based Glory World Series kickboxing promotion and had two fights in the US over the past 12 months.

After recording a knockout victory at Madison Square Garden in November last year, Edwards' chances of competing for a world title stalled, getting beaten by Errol Zimmerman from Curacao in Denver in May.

"The last fight I had was make or break for me, so losing that was a big mental let down," Edwards said.

"A lot of things went wrong, but the worst is behind me now and everything's looking a lot better.

"I fought Tafa in 2010 and he's won the NZ kickboxing tournament two years in a row, so he's no bum."

Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, with tickets available at the venue.
