American import Nnaebuka Anyaorah top-scored for the Gunners with 22 points, while Daniel Joyce and captain Daniel Jackson chipped in with 18 and 17 points respectively in the 86-84 result.
The Gunners are now an even 3-3 for the season in the South East Australian Basketball League after a disappointing 40-point loss on the road to the Bandits in their opening game.
They were made to do it the hard way after getting out to a 13-point lead at half-time.
The Bandits trimmed the deficit to 10 points at three-quarter time before closing to within one point with four minutes on the clock. But the Gunners held their nerve down the stretch to win their second straight game at home.
The news wasn't as good for the Canberra Capitals Academy in the women's competition, going down 88-71 to the Dandenong Rangers.
Capitals centre Kristen Langhorn led the way with 21 points on an efficient 9-13 from the field.
The Capitals were never able to recover after they were outscored 25-12 in the second quarter.
