Australia will kick off their campaign by hosting Germany in February, which could see a battle between young guns Kyrgios and Alexander Zverev take centre stage at the Lyneham Tennis Centre.

Tennis ACT boss Kim Kachel has confirmed he will "definitely" make a play at hosting both the Davis Cup and Fed Cup, which pits Australia against Ukraine.

It is welcome news for tennis fans in the capital who are itching to see world No. 20 Kyrgios play in his hometown.

"He's loving the Davis Cup environment at the moment and he's had some great results in the Davis Cup, he's enjoying that atmosphere," Kachel said.

"I'm sure the Canberra public would be keen to see a Davis Cup tie here. It would be a brilliant result.

"We've got a world class facility here and we've got a strong tennis community here in Canberra so it would be great to showcase the Davis Cup or Fed Cup here in Canberra."

The centre court at Lyneham would need temporary stands but Kachel is adamant the venue is capable of hosting high-profile events like the Davis Cup and Fed Cup.

Fresh off a crushing semi-final loss to Belgium in Brussels, where Australia lost both the reverse singles after leading the tie 2-1, the Germany showdown looms as a chance for redemption.

The visitors will most likely be spearheaded by 20-year-old world No.4 Zverev and his world No.27 brother Mischa as well as veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The prospect of Kyrgios facing Zverev is music to the ears of Australian fans, with the Canberra product claiming the spoils twice in their three battles this year.

Todd Woodbridge told The Canberra Times in August Kyrgios and Zverev could forge one of the next generation's great rivalries.

Woodbridge said it was important Kyrgios has someone to measure himself against and Zverev shapes as the ideal person for the fiery Australian to chase.

"I don't think it hurts that Zverev has been going along really well. I think it's important in Nick's case he has someone to challenge and ride on the coat tails of," Woodbridge said.

"In some ways take a little bit of pressure off him. Perhaps the way Zverev has been playing, this is a rivalry that's going to be one of the big ones over the next seven years.

"Sometimes it's hard to be the one that's being hunted the whole time, and that expectation. By having someone taking that away from you every now and again, it lets you just sit back and he can take all the glory and let you just relax and focus. Zverev is probably providing a bit of that at the moment."

Canberra was in the frame to host Australia's quarter-final tie against the USA this year before being snubbed in favour of Brisbane.
