The ACT Government and Tennis ACT will open discussions with Tennis Australia about securing elite content to the redeveloped facility at Lyneham.

The Canberra Tennis Centre has 28 full-sized courts across plexi-pave, clay and synthetic grass surfaces, with the show court having a capacity of 4000 seats.

Canberra already has a $50,000 ATP Challenger and $50,000 ITF women's event locked in for the 2015-16 season.

Healy said the success of last weekend's Davis Cup quarter-final in Darwin could be a blueprint for Canberra.

"We've just come off a tie in the Northern Territory and we need great facilities to play a Davis Cup tie," Healy said.

"I look around at this fantastic facility and the room for stands and I can picture it, absolutely.

"Davis Cup depends on the draw, there's no reason why if we have a tie at the right time of year and the surface suits what the players want to play on, then ACT will definitely come into consideration."

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr said the facility would allow Canberra to host major events, but also catered for social players.

"Having this infrastructure certainly enables that sort of quality tennis event to be brought to Canberra," Barr said.

"The government in supporting the various stages of this project has wanted to achieve a number of things – the capacity to host major tennis events, but also a significant boost to facilities at a grassroots level. I think we've achieved both of those things."

There are 12 plexi-pave courts, 12 claycourts to ITF standard and four synthetic grass courts. There are also four mini-courts for Hot Shots junior tennis.
