Poulos will play in the Australian championships final on Thursday after beating the No. 2 under-14 seed Madison Bishop 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in Melbourne.

It sets up a showdown with the No. 1 ranked player Amber Marshall, who has dropped just 15 games in five matches to storm into the final without losing a set.

But Poulos, who is rated as one of Australia's best juniors, has her eyes on the title after claiming the under-12 trophy last year.

"I'm pretty confident, I've got a plan and everything so hopefully it goes well," Poulos said.

"I knew I could make it to the finals or even win it. I know I'm playing older players ... but I started at quite a young age so I'm used to playing people who are heaps older.

"My game has probably matured so it's not that much of a shock playing older players here.

"I'm keen to qualify for the Australian Open juniors in two years, that's probably the age that I'm aiming for. I've got many years ahead of me and so much time to prepare for that. Everything I do now is to build up."

Poulos played for the Canberra Velocity in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League before her Australian championship campaign.

She shocked most when she smashed Martina Hudaly in her Velocity debut, continuing a run of 25 singles wins in a row.

Poulos started playing tennis when she was three and Canberra officials hope she will follow Nick Kyrgios' path to international stardom.

Meanwhile, Poulos' Velocity teammate Alex Nancarrow has been forced to pull out of the Australian Open wildcard play-offs in Melbourne next week as she nurses a hand injury.

Alison Bai will lead Canberra's charge in the women's singles before teaming up with James Frawley in the mixed doubles as they aim for a spot in the Australian Open draw.
