But this time next week the promising striker will be learning his craft at an English Premier League club and have his skills examined by professional scouts.

Uricaru is one of five players from his Gungahlin United National Premier League under-16s team who will join a select group of youngsters from Australia, New Zealand and South Korea for a two-week camp with the West Ham United International Soccer Academy.

Goalkeeper Jesse Donnelly, left full-back Gus Stretton, centre-back Tim Hall and midfield Will Smith will also be a part of the experience, which includes playing games, expert coaching and attending Champions League and English Premier League fixtures.

Teammate Frazier Phillips was also invited for the trip.

Uricaru has made rapid progress since arriving from Saudi Arabia to Canberra with his family in 2012.

After never having played football in organised competitions, he has improved to the point where he won the golden boot as the leading goal scorer in the under-16 National Premier League, scoring 24 goals from 13 games this year.

The Daramalan College student wants this to be the start of his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

"It means everything to me," Uricaru said.

"Being selected to go to England is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"Training there with professional coaches and having scouts looking at us, it's really exciting."

The players were identified during a camp in Canberra last year, securing a place in Oceania trials that were held in Brisbane.

Uricaru has left Gungahlin United and will play for Canberra FC next season.

His coach at Gungahlin United, Darren Phillips, said Uricaru and the entire under-16 team had a bright future.

"Like the rest of the squad from that season, we went 16 [wins] from 16 [games]. It was a phenomenal team. The world's their oyster," Phillips said.

"If they want to put the effort in, they will get their just rewards.

"He's a very dedicated young man and a very intellectual young man.

"He's agile, he's quick, he's strong, he reads the game and he's willing to learn; he listens.

"He's a very coachable young man."

Capital Football technical director Warren Grieve said Uricaru's goal-scoring feats had put him on his radar but warned against private academies.

"These rogue academies charge kids for the privilege," Grieve said.

"The kids will have a great experience but it's not a legitimate trial.

"They promise them the world but don't deliver."
