United is still holding out hope that the club's foundation player will recover from an ankle injury in time for Saturday's W-League semi-final against Melbourne Victory at Simonds Stadium in Geelong.
Brush was hurt in a tackle just before halftime in last Sunday's 2-1 win against league champions Perth Glory, which booked United's place in the top four.
United will give Brush up until Friday morning's final training session in Canberra to prove her fitness before the team flies out for Melbourne in the afternoon.
Brush did not attend a team visit to Canberra Hospital on Thursday to hand out Christmas gifts to sick children, but coach Elisabeth Migchelsen remained optimistic she would be on the plane to Melbourne.
"Everybody asks about Ellie, and at this stage Ellie is doing fine," Migchelsen said.
"We just need to see how she pulls up tomorrow at the training session.
"She is OK to train tomorrow, so fingers crossed [she is all right]."
Brush has been a mainstay of United's defence since the start of the W-League in 2008.
The 26-year-old captained the club in previous seasons, including the championship-winning campaign in 2011-12, and has two caps for the Matildas.
If she is unable to take her place in the team, Grace Field is the most likely option as a straight swap of central defenders.
The other choice would be to move experienced Kendall Fletcher into defence and bring either Julia De Angelis or Rebecca Kiting into the starting team.
United finished third on the table after an inconsistent season.
Last year's league champions have beaten both the Glory and the Victory this season - the top two teams in the standings - but also dropped points against the three sides which missed the finals.
"It's such a short season and you can't develop things that you want to develop," Migchelsen said.
"Sometimes the results weren't going our way, but you have to deal with it, that's football.
"There is cohesion in the group, but if you make individual mistakes and it costs you the game, what can you do?"
United goalkeeper Chantel Jones is looking forward to her first W-League finals campaign after missing the playoffs last season with Perth Glory.
Jones has deputised for Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams, who has missed this season recovering from a knee reconstruction playing for the Western New York Flash in the US.
In a touch of irony, Jones has signed with the Flash after she was on the opposing side when Williams went down.
"I was there when she injured herself and now I'll be shipped over there, so it's weird, but I'm excited," Jones said.
"I'm excited about the finals and we're coming off that high from last week and hopefully make a grand final."
United can still host the grand final if it wins and if Sydney FC eliminates Perth Glory in Perth on Sunday.
