Wagstaff has been picked in the Australian Boomers squad for the Gold Coast Games where a gold medal would be a crowning achievement - but first he has some unfinished business to tend to.

Four-time NBL champion Wagstaff will look to guide the Perth Wildcats back to the grand final series when they face the Adelaide 36ers in game one of the semi-finals on Friday night.

But the Wildcats forward still took some time out of a hectic play-off schedule to reflect on the prospect of making a dream come true.

Boomers head coach Andrej Lemanis stuck with the bulk of the squad that made an unbeaten start to the FIBA World Cup qualifiers as basketball returns to the Commonwealth Games schedule for the first time since 2006.

"When you were a little kid you were watching the Olympics and the Comm Games and stuff like that. To one day get a chance to play on home soil at a Comm Games is a huge privilege," Wagstaff said.

"I wasn't exactly expecting the call-up but it's a huge honour. It's a huge honour representing your country at any level let alone on home soil, and let along at a Comm Games as well, so super exciting.

"There's still a couple of guys floating around from that [2006] team and I'm sure they'll tell you it's a huge honour to get a gold medal.

"The chance of getting a gold medal is exciting, just getting that chance and pulling on that singlet, I'm beyond words for excitement and just looking forward to it."

Wagstaff could face his former Perth coach and current Illawarra mentor in Rob Beveridge, the Canberra product who will coach Scotland.

Beveridge, whose father is Scottish, was an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning Australian men's team at the Melbourne Games, a tournament in which Scotland finished sixth.

The 47-year-old has his work cut out for him - Scotland is not among FIBA's men's world rankings which feature the world's top 147 countries.

"I obviously had a lot to do with Bevo in the past and he's a good friend," Wagstaff said.

"I didn't know he was actually Scottish, I just knew he had red hair. That translated to instant Scottish, I think he's got some heritage up the line a few generations.

"I'm sure he'll have the Scotland team raring to go. He's a tremendous talent so he'll have them raring to go, they'll be well-coached. He's a proud of individual and I'm sure they'll pose a test with him at the helm."

Outgoing Canberra Capitals teenage superstar Eziyoda Magbegor is also Gold Coast-bound after the WNBL rookie of the year was named in the Opals squad.
