It doesn't make for pretty reading, and that's precisely the situation Tuggeranong were faced with against Weston Creek Molonglo at Chisholm Oval on Friday.

But recent rain around Canberra seems to have spiced up the Chisholm deck, with the minor premiers fighting back through young gun Benji Floros (3-20) to leave Creek battling at 7-107 at stumps.

Floros picked up the prized scalp of the competition's leading run scorer John Rogers for 4 - his third of the innings - to leave Creek teetering precariously at 3-4.

Before too long Creek were 5-53 and Tuggeranong had a serious sniff of a first innings lead, after Adam Ritchard knocked over Big Bash League batsman Jono Dean (15) and Mark Bennett (10).

But Harry Medhurst (23) and Sam Taylor (32 not out) put together a 50-run stand ensured the game hangs in the balance leading into day two.

Taylor and Corey Ryan (0 not out) will have the weight of the world on their shoulders early on day two, just 30 runs away from a first innings lead.

Earlier in the day Creek fast bowler Harry Medhurst sliced through the home side's middle order on his way to 4-36 to put his side in the box seat.

A top order batting collapse loosened Creek's grip on the trophy, with minor premiers Tuggeranong needing nothing more than a draw to win the competition.
