After all, "it's just five wickets, it's not like you've become Prime Minister of Australia".
Wood ripped through the Wests-UC batting line-up on his way to 5-43 in a comprehensive 51-run first innings victory in the Cricket ACT Douglas Cup at Jamison Oval on Saturday.
Eastlake notched up its first win of the two-day competition after posting 237 and knocking over Wests-UC for 186 in reply.
Not one for leaping around and celebrating, Wood kept the celebrations "pretty tame" when he claimed the scalp of Maaz Khan to complete the haul.
"I'm a pretty easy-going bloke, it's just five wickets, it's not like you've become Prime Minister of Australia," Wood said.
"I was pretty happy about it. I have not [got a first grade five-for before] so it was a new feeling, but not too bad."
Wood was able to break the day down into four blocks as Eastlake claimed the last six wickets for 48 runs.
"We got a few poles early, we were worried about [Wests-UC captain Matt] Condon, got Condon, and then just skittled them," Wood said.
"It was a pretty run of the mill day to be honest. They were getting themselves out to be honest, we didn't really have to work that hard. It was just good to get a win before the new year's break."
Meanwhile, Weston Creek Molonglo skipper John Rogers scored a match-winning 179* (164) against Ginninderra at Stirling Oval.
It's the perfect preparation for Rogers as he prepares to lead his side into the Cricket ACT John Gallop Cup one-day final against ANU at Stirling Oval on Sunday without star batsman Jono Dean.
Dean is in Adelaide to prepare for his Big Bash League campaign with the Strikers but Rogers shouldered the load with ease, leading the hosts to a six-wicket first innings victory over the Tigers.
A week after Ginninderra centurion Rhys Healy lauded Rogers as "the best stick in the comp", his scintillating knock led his side to 4-351 in reply to the Tigers' 350.
His scoring rate sends an ominous warning to the ANU bowlers he will face in the one-day decider - Rogers hit 23 boundaries and six sixes.
Weston Creek Molonglo will enter a record-breaking 11th consecutive Cricket ACT grand final across all formats while the Owls enter their first one-day grand final in nine years, looking to win their first title since 1996-97.
ANU's final tune-up was nowhere near as promising as that of their rivals, falling to a crushing 116-run first innings defeat at the hands of Queanbeyan at ANU North Oval.
Chasing 336 for victory, the Owls were rolled for 220 as Mark Solway claimed 4-52, with Owen Chivers (69) and Corey Spink (67) leading the way with the bat.
A nail-biting finish had North Canberra-Gungahlin aiming for two wickets in the final over and a stunning upset against Tuggeranong, but the Vikings held out for a draw.
