"Sixteen off six. Twelve off five. Ten off four. Ten off three. Eight off two. Six off one..."

Ultimately, Norths fell four runs short of an outright victory in a thriller against competition heavyweights Weston Creek Molonglo at Harrison Oval on Sunday.

They still walked away with a first innings victory, having finished on 4-66 in pursuit of 70 for the outright win (Chris Zhang 21*).

Weston Creek Molonglo were left to rue the absence of skipper John Rogers, who was in Adelaide to watch his younger brother Tom play for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League final.

Not only were they missing Rogers - arguably the premier batsman in the competition - they were also still without another one of Canberra's best in Adelaide Strikers batsman Jono Dean, who was playing in the BBL decider.

"It's just games like that, you just can't describe it. We were tense and we were hopeful at the same time," Rahman said.

"Obviously we wanted to win that game [outright] and we got so close. It was just one of those things where you're disappointed but you're not disappointed because it was such a great game.

"Personally, that experience is why you play cricket isn't it? To have those tough times and to have those close games.

"We haven't had the greatest history and this puts us into a position where if we win the next few games, we might play finals, and the boys are up for that."

Norths had Creek reeling at 5-81 in pursuit of 217 to end day one, and carried on with the job as Matthew Boak claimed a six-wicket haul.

Boak finished with 6-44 from 15 overs as the visitors folded for 115, losing their last five wickets for a meagre 22 runs.

Wight enforced the follow on with a 102-run lead up his sleeve - the second time in as many weeks Weston Creek Molonglo have been sent in again.

The start was promising but another lower order collapse saw them lose their last six wickets for 30 runs and it was game on.

Norths needed 70 runs in the final eight overs of play for a stunning outright victory, but time was against them.

Time wasn't against Eastlake, who registered a comprehensive 10-wicket outright win over ANU at Kingston Oval.

Already trailing by 131, the Owls were rolled for just 150 in the second innings as Praveen Mathai took 4-68 with Scott Murn (76) offering the only resistance.

Eastlake required just 20 runs for victory late in the day and got there in emphatic fashion, with Mathai finishing unbeaten on 15 from just six balls, while Tom Henry was not out on 7 (3).

Meanwhile, a 116-run seventh wicket stand between Mark Solway (63 not out from 155) and James Dimarhos (49 not out from 144) gifted Queanbeyan first innings points and left Tuggeranong's Douglas Cup defence in jeopardy at Chisholm Oval.

Wests-UC cruised to a first innings victory against Ginninderra thanks to Matt Condon (119) and Tom Engelbrecht (92) at Kippax Oval.
