Needing 241 for victory in response to a superb century from Wests UC opener Darren Richards, Norths were in trouble at 5-121 when Taylor arrived at the wicket.

Taylor kept his composure alongside Liam Greenwood (48) and Paras Sachdeva (26), hitting a two from the second-last ball of the innings to finish unbeaten on 50.

Norths captain Andrew Barnett was pleased with the poise Taylor – an ACT representative – showed when the game was on the line.

"It was great to see someone so young batting with so much maturity," Barnett said.

"He was nervous, but he played very smart, along with Liam and Paras, knocking the ball around and keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

"To knock off 240 was a really good team effort and it was good to see a bunch of people chipping in."

Norths were eager to put the demons of last week behind them when they were hammered by Queanbeyan in their opening game of the season.

"Wests won the T20 and two-day last year, so it's great to be able to turn it around so quickly," Barnett said.

"We didn't dwell on last week too much.

"It's just a case of making a bit more of a concerted effort to make sure we had a big improvement this week."

Scotland international George Munsey top-scored for Norths with 51, while Brendan Duffy took 3-37 from his 10 overs.

Earlier, Richards struck 108 before he was run out as Wests UC finished its 50 overs on 9-240.

Tuggeranong made it a perfect two from two to start the season with a nail-biting one-wicket win against ANU at Chisholm Oval.

After restricting ANU to 9-142 from its 50 overs, Tuggeranong held its nerve as the last pair secured victory in the 48th over.

It was another close game at Freebody Oval as Weston Creek Molonglo beat Queanbeyan by four runs despite a sensational century from Chris Russo.

Russo made 102 from 142 balls to anchor Queanbeyan's run chase, but they fell just short to be dismissed for 222 in reply to Weston Creek Molonglo's 7-226.

Veteran Cade Brown top-scored for Creek with an unbeaten 63 from 75 balls.

A surprising four-wicket haul from part-timer Michael Spaseski led Eastlake to a comprehensive eight-wicket win against Ginninderra at Kingston Oval.

Spaseski took 4-12 from five overs as Ginninderra was bowled out for 172, with ACT Comets all-rounder Vele Dukoski (61 not out) and Robbie Ringland (48 not out) taking Eastlake past the target with 23 overs to spare.

Meanwhile, the ACT Comets will be chasing their first win in the Sydney T20 competition when they face Penrith and Blacktown on Sunday.
