Matt Toomua announced his engagement to Elyse Perry with this photo on Instagram.
One of Australian international sport's favourite power couples have announced they will be tying the knot, more than two years after they first met in a Qantas lounge.
Cricketer Ellyse Perry, 23, and rugby union player Matt Toomua, 24, made their engagement official in an Instagram post on Wednesday, with Toomua writing, "Today I asked her to marry me. She said yes! #poorgirl #littlebitexcited."
The announcement came as the two were due to head off to represent Australia in international matches, with Toomua heading to Auckland with the Wallabies and Perry on her way to Brisbane to bat against Pakistan.
The two have been an item since they first met at the Qantas Club in Sydney Airport in 2012. Originally Toomua was too shy to approach Perry, and Brumbies media manager Elliot Woods was forced to approach her on his behalf.
The Sydney Football Club Women's team tweeted out their congratulations to the happy couple, just one of their many well-wishers on social media.
Perry has represented Australia in cricket and soccer teams since she was just 16, playing internationally as well as being part of Canberra United's championship-winning W-League squad in 2012.
Born in Wahroonga, NSW, she has also had a brief media career, hosting a show called Football Stars of Tomorrow on digital sports channel One HD.
Freshly engaged, she will be heading off to Brisbane to play against Pakistan in an eight-series match beginning on Thursday.
Toomua, known by his nickname Pup, made his debut with the ACT Brumbies in 2008 and played for six years before being chosen by the Australian Wallabies to play in 2013.
