Football Federation Australia will ban people found responsible for lighting flares at the match between Western Sydney Wanderers and Canberra FC on Wednesday night.
An FFA spokesperson said it was working with the Wanderers and ACT Police to identify individuals and "commence the process of banning them from all football matches as part of its zero tolerance to anti-social behaviour''.
Capital Football chief executive Heather Reid said she was disappointed ''idiots'' took the focus off Canberra’s emerging footballers.
''The fact that there was a very good game, there was an opportunity for a number of younger players from Canberra to be seen by the Western Sydney Wanderers and other scouts that were there for potential contracts in the A-League is what we’ll concentrate on," she said.
''The idiots who bring flares to the grounds ... we don’t really want them at the grounds and we don’t want to give them any more oxygen.''
