Gungahlin United will field nine teams across the men's and women's NPL competitions after a meeting with Capital Football on Wednesday.

Just three months after being awarded a provisional one-year Premier League licence in October last year, Gungahlin United's involvement was in doubt after issues within the club's board.

Gungahlin United parted ways in December with its Premier League vice-president Darren Phillips, who was part of the licence-bid team.

Phillips was instrumental in the club's bold recruitment strategy, which netted a host of high-profile players from the Capital Football NPL, including Canberra FC captain Matt Grbesa, Belconnen United star Dustin Wells and golden boot Stephen Domenici from the Cooma Tigers.

Gungahlin United president Ricardo Alberto said he was disappointed with the need for a meeting with Capital Football and was always confident the club was able to remain in the Premier League.

"As a club we made the commitment to provide opportunities for nine teams to play in the NPL and WPL and we intend to honour that commitment," Alberto said.

"The immediate priority is to review the existing financial commitments to ensure that this can be sustained beyond the 12-month provisional license."

Phillips also attended the meeting with Capital Football and was adamant the club's financial commitment was sustainable.

He was disappointed not to remain with the club after helping Gungahlin United get the Premier League licence, but said it had become an "untenable situation regarding working relationships".

Chief executive Heather Reid said Capital Football was satisfied that Gungahlin United was financially capable of continuing its licence this year.

"For the sake of more than 140 players from under-12s through to open-age men and women, it's pleasing to see that GUFC has a commitment to remain in the Premier League competitions," Reid said.
