Bailey was ruled out of the Twenty20 clash with Sri Lanka after aggravating a hamstring and buttock injury while fielding for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.

The injury further sours a disappointing few days for Tasmania, and ironically it was Bailey's Prime Minister's XI replacement doing a lot of the damage.

Western Australian all-rounder Cartwright backed up his first innings of 94 with a speedy 27 from 17 balls to wrap up a nine-wicket victory in Hobart.

It is the second squad change made by the PM's XI in the lead-up to Wednesday night's clash with Sri Lanka at Manuka Oval.

Queensland batsman Sam Heazlett was tapped on the shoulder after Victorian youngster Will Pucovski was ruled out with concussion on Friday.

Cartwright made his Test debut for Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground last month and has tasted Big Bash League success with the Perth Scorchers.

National selector Greg Chappell was disappointed the Prime Minister's XI had lost an experienced international in Bailey but excited at the prospect of Zimbabwean-born Cartwright having another crack at international opposition.

"While it's disappointing to lose George through injury, this is another exciting opportunity for Hilton, following his Test debut earlier this summer," Chappell said.

"Hilton comes into the game in strong form after impressing with the bat in Western Australia's Sheffield Shield win against Tasmania, and we hope he can continue his form for the Prime Minister's XI against Sri Lanka."
