Ashley Keir, 19, is an emerging tennis talent in her first year on tour and representing Canberra Velocity in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League.

Lauren Keir, 17, is in the ACT Academy of Sport soccer program and spent three weeks training with Canberra United in the pre-season.

Daniel Keir, 15, has switched from the Australian Rugby Union's talented development program to join the Canberra Raiders under 16s Harold Matthews squad.

And if you're wondering where the trio's sporting genes came from, dad Steve Keir was a prop in the 1980s for the Raiders, Eastern Suburbs Roosters and North Sydney Bears, while mum Dianne was an ACT hockey and squash representative.

''We're one big team,'' said Ashley.

''Everyone's trying to achieve the same goal, just in different sports. We're all trying to be professional athletes, so at home it's all good food, everyone's got the same motivation.

''Mum and dad have never been power parents, they literally dedicate their lives to us.

''Our parents always put us in 100 different sports.

''From a young age we did athletics, soccer, touch football, hockey, tennis … everything.''

Lauren and Daniel will attend Erindale College next year as part of the school's Talented Sports Program, while Ashley graduated from the college last year.

In one of her years at school, Steve recalls driving Ashley interstate on 37 consecutive weekends for tournaments.

Dianne, now a fitness instructor, would meet the kids after school to bring them snacks before training sessions.

''Now it's easier because two of them have their licences,'' Steve says.

''But every day it's a co-ordinated approach: who's picking up who, when and where, from different fields all over Canberra.

''I wouldn't have it any other way.''

Now they're playing further afield, too.

Daniel captained the ACT Under 15s team at this year's national rugby league championships, and played up an age group at the Under 16 Australian rugby union tournament.

Lauren, who was playing ACT Women's Premier League at 13, toured the US with the ACTAS soccer squad this year.

Ashley, with a career-high world ranking of 752, spent eight weeks playing in Europe.

''I'm working with [former professional] Alun Jones now, he's a great coach, he's improved my tennis a lot,'' Ashley said.

''I'm hoping to be in the top 300 by the end of next year.''
