Australian tennis great John Newcombe has challenged Nick Kyrgios to aim for a spot in the world's top 30 by the end of the year to capitalise on his stunning Wimbledon form.

But a mentally and physically exhausted Nick Kyrgios will use the next week to recuperate from his draining Wimbledon campaign before making any decision on where he will base himself in Australia.
Tennis ACT national academy coach Todd Larkham is preparing for a caretaker coaching role during the Canberra teenager's next training block while Kyrgios decides whether he will return to Canberra to be closer to family or stay in Melbourne.
Kyrgios also is weighing up whether to play in a tournament in Newport in the US next week or take a break after pocketing $432,000 for his Wimbledon quarter-final appearance.
It's likely Kyrgios will give his body a chance to rest and return to Canberra in the coming days before ramping up his preparation for the US Open, which starts on August 23.
Kyrgios, 19, has rocketed up the rankings, rising from No. 144 to No. 66 in two weeks. Just 18 months ago he was ranked No. 838.
His four-set loss to Milos Raonic ended his dream run on the biggest stage in tennis and finished a 12-week block of tournaments overseas for him.
Kyrgios is keen to move back to Canberra after spending the past year in Melbourne working with coach Simon Rea.
He is likely to use the capital as his base between international trips. Tennis Australia is considering flying hitting partners to Canberra to help Kyrgios' development and ensure he maximises his potential.
"There's no real rush on Nick's future ... he's exhausted, had 12 weeks on the road and he's physically and mentally drained," Larkham said from London.
"He'll take his time to sort that out. Over the short term I'll probably be a caretaker coach until things are resolved long-term. There are a lot of discussions to be had about that."
Larkham said being courtside for Kyrgios' Wimbledon journey had motivated him to return to the capital to find the next Kyrgios in Canberra.
Kyrgios shocked the world when he beat No.1 Rafael Nadal in the fourth round, but he was down on energy for his clash against Raonic.
Seven-time grand slam winner Newcombe said Kyrgios had to ensure he surrounded himself with the right people to ensure he continued his rise.
"Now [Kyrgios] has to set himself some targets - by the end of the year aim to get into the top 30," Newcombe said.
"That's a realistic target for his ability, but to do that you've got to work hard and need really good people around you to help you along the way.
"You've got to surround yourself with good people. The tennis mountain is a hard one to climb.
"The match against Nadal, the way he handled and took it on [was a highlight]. But he was mentally fatigued [against Raonic], I'm not surprised. He'd never played that many five-set matches in a row before. It would have been a miracle if he kept going."
