She hadn't leapt in excitement at the final whistle — she was aboard a plane on her way home from a trip to Europe.

Now the Canberra Darters staple has been welcomed back into Arawang camp ahead of the decider having not hit the court in six weeks.

With rumours she would be back in time for the major semi-final two weeks ago, Kalsbeek joked she was saving her comeback for a bigger occasion.

"This is a bigger deal than a semi-final," Kalsbeek said.

"I actually just can't wait. I haven't played for six weeks and now I'm coming back and playing a grand final.It's pretty awesome, really."

Arawang have split the silverware with Tuggeranong over the past two years after meeting in consecutive grand finals, but centre-court stalwart Kalsbeek was intent on tipping the ledger in Arawang's favour on Sunday.

"I was actually hoping that they won [the major semi-final] so it gave me two weeks to get some form of fitness back," Kalsbeek said.

"I've been training pretty hard for the past two weeks to do what I need to do [on Sunday]. I had a bit of a test last night, which was good, so I'm looking forward to it."

Kalsbeek has had to juggle a job in the public service with netball after finishing school in 2014. But that could be about to change with the advent of the new national netball league.

A massive wage increase will allow some of Australia's top players become professional netballers, and Kalsbeek laughed "training all the time would be awesome".

But with uncertainty surrounding Canberra's affiliation with one of the new clubs, Kalsbeek said the challenge was ensuring she is ready for any opportunity that comes her way.

"Now that we are too old to be in the ACT academies it's so weird not training six, seven times a week," Kalsbeek said.

"We could be going into a pre-season next month, because they want this new competition to start in February."

Playing netball at the elite level has always been a dream for Kalsbeek, so whether it's Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or anywhere else, she would be on the first flight there if given a shot.

"If an opportunity came and I was a contracted athlete, I would hands down stop whatever I was doing to pursue that," Kalsbeek said.

"In the big scheme of things that's how I'm going to be successful going forward. Now that there is a few more doors opening, you'd be silly not to take any opportunity that you do get.

"I think now a lot more opportunities are going to open up for everybody. With three new teams coming in, it definitely opens up the door for 60 new players to come in and get a crack at it."
