The North Canberra Gungahlin Cricket Club is the ACT's Good Sports Club of the Year for its work in encouraging healthy behaviours to tackle alcohol, obesity and mental health issues through sport.

In addition to more than half the committee undergoing Responsible Service of Alcohol training, the club also maintains a smoke-free environment around its playing facilities, provides a better range of food and non-alcoholic drink options at events and has implemented a safe transport policy.
Player numbers have risen by almost 30 per cent, food and drink revenue is up by 50 per cent and participation in social activities has increased.
It has used the returns generated from being involved with Good Sports to give back to the community in a variety of ways, including through junior coaching in school holidays, a community cricket clinic at a local special needs school and the employment of a full-time coach for juniors – the first role of its kind in the ACT.
The other Australian Capital Territory Good Sports Club of the Year finalists were the Belconnen Magpies Football Club, Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club and West Belconnen Warriors Rugby League Club.
The North Canberra Gungahlin Cricket Club is now a finalist at the national awards to be announced at the MCG on November 20.
